Here are some photos of Columbus State I have taken over the past year. I post these here to show off the power of flicker. Thanks to Paul Stamatiou for the insructions on how embed a Flickr slide show into a web page.
If you have not checked out Flickr I encourage you to try it out. For a good overview of what you can do with Flikr listen to Burks Oakley's podcast. Flikr is an on-line photo sharing service. It's genius is it allows you to tag photos with keywords that you and others can search and organize. It is also integrated with Blogger and other blogging software and services. You can also" geotag" photos by adding tags that include latititude and longitude data. This, in turn, integrates with Google Maps and Google Earth. A site called Geobloggers (off-line in December for upgrades) allows you to place photos (from Flickr your your hard drive), audio and video files on Google Maps. You can then link to this map and at sattelite imagery of the map area. You can also create an RSS feed to notify you when content is added at these geograhic coordinates.
I think there is great potential for these services in education. Imagine how this can be used in study abroad programs. Students and teachers can document their experiences with pictures, blogs, podcasts and video and give this documentation a global context with maps. This will remain a dynamic record of their experiences that can be revisited again and again. Here are some more ideas.Technorati Tags: flickr, geotagging, travel, journaling, photography, blogging
